Succubus - The Female Demon of the Night

When god created the world, it is believed in Jewish mystical believes, that god created both man and woman, from clay. The woman was named Lilith, and is considered as the first wife of Adam. But there was a conflict, between them over the dominions in sexual intercourse. It got even to the point, that Lilith fled from the Garden of Eden. Samael, the angel of death was sent by god to bring Lilith’s soul, for her disobedience. Instead, they became lovers and was referred to as the hellish counterpart of Adam and Eve in some legends. Lilith and Samael gave birth to demonic children. Of them, the female demons were known as Succubi, which in singular, goes as Succubus.

A succubus is described as a beautiful woman, a one that is irresistible to men. In his sleep, when a man dreams of his darkest sexual fantasies, it is believed, that he is visited by a succubus. But if one take a closer look at the entity, he would be able to see the deformities the demon has. Such deformities would be fangs, a tail, and even wings.

Just as Lilith, a succubus would take the dominance in this intercourse. The man would go into a sleep paralysis, and that is considered to occur due to the power of the succubus. In some stories, through these intercourse, the succubus sucks out the energy of the man, making him drained when he wake up. So the person would feel an unexplainable fatigue after waking up. But the most popular concept is that through these intercourse, a succubus collects sperms to produce their offspring.

A succubus would take the sperm and hand it over to an incubus, who is the male counterpart of the demon, to impregnate human women with their offspring. Such children are called Cambions, a halfhuman half-demon offspring. Some describes these children as beings with supernatural inheritances such as powers and demonic looks and others would describe as people with evil attitude and those who could easily be possessed by spirits.

This process of a succubus is detailed in Malleus Maleficarum, which translates to, the hammer of witches, written by Heinrich Kramer. The text goes in great lengths to discuss this concept, citing a number of Biblical quotations and noted scholars. And finally the book concludes, that this is indeed the method used by such demons.

Dæmonologie written by King James, also agree with the fact that demons do not reproduce and would impregnate women with their offspring. According to the Dæmonologie, instead of seducing living men for sperms, a succubus would steal the sperm out of a dead man and deliver it into a woman. As for King James, both succubus and incubus are referred to one entity. And described differently based on the phase of the process they are in.

Some believe that Lilith herself is a succubus. Lilith is one of the four original succubus queens with Samael mated. The other three queens are names as Eisheth, Agrat bat Mahlat, and Naamah. Succubus, or entities similar to them, appear in many cultures. In Greek legends, succubus are identified as siren. But instead of stealing sperms, sirens would lure sailors with their enchanting music and destroy ships killing all the sailors. Many traditions would perform rituals or prayers, so they would be protected from a succubus. Even though humans are unharmed by succubus, their offspring could be quite dangerous and threatening.

So be aware of succubus and next time when you dream of your darkest fantasies, know that it’s not just a dream but a visit from a succubus. What do you think of this story? Have you experienced any visits from a succubus? Let me know your thoughts.
