Pandora's Box - The Box That Unleased Hell On Earth

In some stories it is said, in the beginning of time, when only gods exist in the universe, Prometheus, the titan god of fire, created humankind from clay. He gifted his creation the knowledge of science and art. So Prometheus was considered as the champion of Humans. He wanted to give more, so he stole the element of fire from Heaven, and gave it to humankind as a gift. For this act, Zeus punished Prometheus for eternity, because the element of fire, gave humans much superiority above all other creations, making them second only to gods. It could also be interpreted as Zeus being jealous on how Prometheus was respected by humans. Even though he was the king of gods, Prometheus was the champion of mankind. With their population growing, Prometheus was more recognized than any other god, including Zeus. So Zeus envied both Prometheus and his creation.

This theft was the perfect excuse for him to act against both Prometheus and mankind. Zeus chained him to a rock, and let eagles to feast on his liver. Zeus was angry with the humans as well, for accepting Prometheus’s gift. He instructed Hephaestus, who was the blacksmith of gods, to create a mortal woman who is irresistibly beautiful, even to the gods. After Zeus gave life to her and named her Pandora, each god presented her with divine gifts. Hera presented her the gift of curiosity, and Hermes gifted her a box and warned her never to open it.

It is these two gifts that ultimately led to the downfall of mankind. Zeus presented Pandora to Prometheus' brother, Epimetheus, as a peace offering. Captivated by her beauty, Epimetheus fell instantly in love. Prometheus knew that this was an act of vengeance. He warned his brother not to receive any gifts from Zeus. But Epimetheus was charmed by her beauty and refused his brother’s warning. He took Pandora to be his wife.

Together they spent a happy life but whenever Pandora looked at the box Hermes gave her, she had to remind herself of the warning that came along with it. But with each passing day her curiosity only grew. So one day, she did open the box. Just as she opened, it gave out a hissing sound and engulfed her with a fume of horror, pain and darkness. The fume spread all over the land, extending its darkness.

On realizing what she has done, she closed the lid, but it was already too late. Everything except one has gone out. Even after the destruction she wanted to see what was remaining in the box. So she opened it again.

But this time instead of darkness and horror, something warm and comforting wrapped her. It’s the one good thing Zeus has left inside the box, which is hope. It is with hope, that we humans confront all darkness that comes along our way. After Pandora opened the box of horror, the lives of mankind filled with pain and horror. It wiped away most of the goodness of humans filling our hearts with hate, envy and much more.

The story of Pandora and her box teaches that sometimes curiosity could bring dangerous consequences. So sometimes it’s better off not giving into curiosity. What do you think of this story? Do you think curiosity could be destructive?

Archangel Uriel - The Angel of Wisdom

Archangels are spiritual beings who serve god, by fulfilling certain tasks assigned to them. In most cases, each archangel represent a certain attribute and are welcomed to god’s court. They also have the power above other angels who answer to them. Archangel Uriel is considered as the angel of wisdom. The angel is said to be carrying a flaming sword, that burns with god’s truth. Uriel will slice the darkness cause by lies and illusions with his sword, and light it with god’s truth. The name Uriel means ‘the god is my light’, which I believe perfectly aligns with the role of bringing light of truth, to where there is confusion. In the Second Book of Esdras, it is mentioned how god tasked archangel Uriel to answer many questions prophet Ezra had. Uriel talk to Ezra through a series of visions. When Ezra was in Babylon, he ask god why he keeps Israelites in misery, if god is just. We can see in the way Uriel answer him that there is rage. Uriel begins by telling Ezra t...

Uranus - The Sky God

Uranus, sometimes written Ouranos, meaning "sky" or "heaven", was the primal Greek god personifying the sky and one of the Greek primordial deities. Uranus or Father Sky, was the son and husband of Gaia, the primordial Mother Earth. His symbols were the Wheel and the Stars. Uranus was conceived by Gaia alone, but other sources cite that Aether, the god of the upper sky as his father. Uranus and Gaia were the parents of the first generation of Titans, and the ancestors of most of the Greek gods. Uranus came every night to cover the earth and mate with Gaia. Together, they gave birth to the twelve titans, the three one-hundred-handed giants named the Hekatonkheires, and the one-eyed giants the Cyclopes. Uranus didn’t like the children they give birth to. He considered them threats to his power. His Titan children however, were quite beautiful and they pleased him. But he was so disgusts by the sight of his other children. Legend also...
